i have to say tyra banks of the choices given, tho giselle was pretty close. shes young and shes done so much already but give her time to let her carear florish. Tyra's done that. we have to ask is this a personalitly contest or the worlds top model? i think it takes a great personality to make a top model which tyra clearly has. to shed some deserved light on niamoi she showed us that bottylicious bods are beautiful to.

I have to go with Tyra Banks, because she's such a great role model for women whose bodys are womanly. I'm a 23 year old Jamaican woman who grew up in an area of canada that wasn't very culturaly diverse. The majority of the population was caucasian and I was very self conscious about my body through my teen years. But Tyra has proven that its beautiful to be 'bootylicious' and no matter what you body type, if you're healthy, you have nothing to be ashamed of. I love how she empowers women that way. Where as other supermodels, even if the don't mean to do it, put a lot of pressure on young women to be super thin. Plus the brains that obviously goes with her beauty and her high standards make her a fantastic role model.

Tyra is the ultimate in Models. Her style and look sets her apart from the rest. She allows every girl and women who has fears to overcome them.

Not very many girls (teens) have the maturity or guts to take a stand against all odds, face the music and decide to grab the bull by the horns towards a career. Tyra knew what she wanted, others were against her and she knocked the mountain down and did not cry about it when she broke a nail.

My little girl sees Tyra's perseverance through the pressure.

A perfect nose, gorgeous eyes and a small frame makes one beautiful. Having brains makes one a great business woman. Having both is what makes you a "model".

I guess you all wrote your comments before Tyra Banks was added. None of these models have done half as much as Tyra. She has ripped the hell out of thousands of runways and knowing she is tearing up television. I bet you could put any of the other models accomplishments next to Tyra's and they would look scarce. Forget Gisele being ranked as 16 with Forbes. Oprah is ranked damn near number one and have you not heard the recent media question? "Is Tyra Banks the next Oprah."

By far the most beautiful is Naomi Campbell, linda evangelista, and Tyra Banks. I say these 3 because when you think of modeling and how modeling has transferred itself throughout, these 3 ladies are MODELS. They are the powerhouse models that are GREAT DIVAS in motion. Look at the wealth and power they have assumed. These ladies all deserve the title. If I had to really choice what the ideal model would be.... damn its just to hard. Hell I have taught fashion for over 30 years and yet these ladies have all of what I call a model to be.. No others have what they have.. Diversity is key when you think of a model! They live up to it!

i really can't say their is a "best". All of these women are beautiful and unique...or they wouldn't be supermodels in the first place. But as far as favourite..even though linda already won....I would have to say naomi campbell. She has an amazing body and gorgeous face. She is not anorexic thin like the models we see today....she has curves and a great booty...and it's all about the booty these days. Well I'm not surprized Linda Evangelista won afterall it's a Canadian show and she's Canadian. The host even said she was his favorite. hint hint. It it was an English show, it'd be Kate Moss, American show most likely Cindy Crawford, German show Claudia Schiefer or Heidi Klum,
Brazilian show, Gisele French show Laticia Costa so on and so on. Like I said there was no criteria so it's very subjective.

FF I'm confused. What are the criteria for this contest.? They're all beautiful, successful, and great in their own right. They're different in looks, age, style. (Which is what makes them interesting in the first place). They modeled at different point in times. You can't ask people to judge base on no established criteria.

As the videos show. Each woman bring something unique to modeling. How do you judge that. It's like apple and oranges and it's totaly subjective.

If you're not insecure, then you're on crack. Or you're 5 years old. You obviously can't deal with someone critcizing your precious little Gisele. Seriously, grow up. This is life in the big world. I have nothing personal against Gisele. NOTHING.

Gisele grew to popularity in the fashion world but she didn't become a household name in pop culture until she started dating Leonardo DeCaprio. It's the truth. Now, she's getting campaigns like crazy but it's because she now has a recognizable name that sells to the masses. I'll bet my last euro that if she wasn't dating Brady or DeCaprio, she would have been sent to model-no-man's-land by now. Or begging to renew her VS contract.

Years ago, the other models who dated other celebrities were already household names in their own right. They didn't need Gere or Burns to bring their names in the spotlight. The spotlight was already on them before they even started dating them.

Gisele's stats are remarkable today but years ago they would be nothing special, especially when you take into account the increase in monetary value. Hell, if you put Cindy Crawford's earnings from 1990 into todays money, she would blow Gisele out the of the stratosphere.

Gisele is popular today. Number one, in my opinion (although many would say that Kate Moss is today's #1 model). But among the other models back in THEIR day, she would be considered A-V-E-R-A-G-E.

Gisele is an anomaly among today's models (god, I'm repeating myself). Gisele is the type of model that made models more popular than celebrities back in the late 80s and 90s. Today's high fashion models don't stand a chance because they're built like pre-adolescent boys. There's not a chance that today's girls would ever become true "supermodels" again. Household names, never. It's because they don't have that sex appeal that crosses over into pop culture. Gisele, on the other hand, is the exception of a model that's truly built like a woman and has made it beyond Victoria's Secret.

But the reality is this:

-For better or for worse, Kate Moss is currently the #1 all-around supermodel of today. Perhaps Gisele's April US Vogue cover will knock Kate out of the #1 postion. Who knows?

-Put Gisele next Christy Turlington and she's AVERAGE. Put Gisele next to Naomi and she's LESS THAN AVERAGE.

This is tough. Naomi has a great walk but is not great before in front of the camera unless she's nude. I'd go with Christy but she has stated interviews that she doesn't follow fashion and hates her catwalk days. Tyra was a great Victoria's Secret model and is now a great personality but certainly doesn't qualify as The Greatest Supermodel. Cindy Crawford has been commercial for so long that I've totally forgotten that she was once considered fashion. I hate Kate Moss. She didn't blow up until her cocaine scandal and I still don't get it.

I can't choose one, so I'll choose two: Gisele and Linda both have my votes. Both of them love fashion and you can see it in their pictures. Linda is fashion's greatest collaborator and Gisele glows in every picture she's done.

This was a time when color and sheer beauty ruled. Forget the others. Heck, put Gisele next to the likes of Yasmine Ghauri or Karen Mulder back in their era and she'd be just a fly on the wall!

Gisele became huge here in the US BEFORE DICAPRIO. I had seen her on covers of Vogue, Elle, W. etc. tv wise I had seen on E!, VH1, network tv entertainment shows profiled her has the latest Brazilian bombsell taking fashion by storm. She even won a VH1/Vogue fashion award for model of the year in 1999. She even cohost it the next year with Actor Cuba Gooding Jr, which FF conveniently left out so they can paint her as the girl who dated Leo to become mainstream. Nonsense.

THAT'S WHAT I MEAN. If you still don't get it, I'll tell you what this have to do with celebrities. I was around during those days so I remember them well. Even Cindy crawford in an interview said that back in those days It was easier for a Model because actresses were not all into fashion like they are today. Claudia Schiefer have acknowledged that Gisele in the one true Supemodel in today's fashion world. She remembers what it was like back then and she was reminicing about it. I remember when Claudia was introduced to the US market as the latest Bridget Bardot for Guess Jeans. I know of what I speak. You can't handle it, TOUGH.

Back in those days (I know cause I used to get just about every fashion magazines) The models were on the covers. Now when I get my mags, Each has an actress on the cover. Fashion mags are not even what they used to be. They're more like pulicity brochures for Hollywood's latest film release. (Once in a blue moon if you're lucky, you'll see a model on a cover). I've even written to Mag Editors about it. Their response was "Everybody's doing it. Celeb covers sells more. if they want to survive financially in this celebrity obssessed market, they have to do it too."
In those days Designers, especialy Gianni versace (Who was the champions of those supermodels) loved putting those girls in their Shows. Models did most of the feature editorials & ads for mags and fashions houses. Now you'll mostly see a Brangelinalike layout as the feature editorials complete with some crapy article you'd normally see in the tabloids. These days a lot of Designers favor actresses as spokepersons over models. Those girls DID NOT HAVE TO DEAL IN A MARKET LIKE THAT. I'm sure it's harder and frustrating for new models to break into the business and get any recognition.

Let's get real if all it took was a great body and perfect face ALL OF Los Angeles COULD BE SUPERMODELS OK. I'm talking about Gisele's BODY OF WORK, and I've seen them all. As for Gisele's face being Average, that's your opinion. As they say beauty is the eye of the beholder. What you call perfect may not be my idea of perfect. Don't be sorry. it's your opinion you're entitle to it LIKE I'M ENTITLE TO MINE.

Gisele would have NO problem if she was around when those girls were at their peaks. Why? BECAUSE SHE'S THAT FREAKIN' GOOD AT WHAT SHE DOES. I don't think her face is perfect. She has a Big nose, but that's what make her interesting to me. She's not relying on having the perfect babie face. I don't think her body is perfect either. She has a boyish figure, but she KNOWS HOW TO USE IT. That's what a great model does, turn her negatives into positives. In addition, She emotes better than anybody.

I'm a fashion & model person. Have been since HS. I've followed them and have my favs like everybody else. So I know of what I speak. I WILL SAY IT AGAIN; GISELE IS THE BEST. THAT'S MY OPINION.

Whatever happened to the more formal model? Some one that got me interested in fashion way back was a model from UK by the name of Jean Shrimpton. She was beautiful, had loads of talent and was just unique in an Aubrey Hepburn sort of way.

Loved your idea of making the list with the greatest supermodels of all time. The number one, in my opinion, is Gisele Bundchen. I am from France and Gisele is definitely the most famous model here. By the way, I believe she's by far the most famous model in the world. I remember I was in Paris last year when she was in the city with her boyfriend, Tom Brady. They were staying at the Ritz and it was like if Princess Diana was there: a lot of paparazzi and a huge crowd of people in the front of the hotel, all of them waiting for her.

Everyday, when I go to work, I see Gisele in billboards of companies such as Cacharel and Dolce & Gabbana. I believe she's the only model who makes news beyond the celebrity news world - she become news when she said that she wanted to be paid! in Euros only. I think she's a very savvy businesswoman.

Plus, Forbes magazine named her the higthest-paid model of all times, Vogue named her the "model of the millineum", she's on the Guinness Book of Records as the world's richest supermodel, she's on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people on the planet....

Of course the greatest supermodel of all times is Gisele. Vogue called her "the model of the millennium", she's the rightest-paid model ever, according to Forbes, she's a one name celebrity, she's definitely the most famous model on the planet... I mean, she is the one!

Linda Evangelista, definitely. She has class, she's bold, and every time I see her photos she looks different... and still beautiful. She's had a career spanning three decades and manages to be just exposed enough... not overexposed like Tyra with her obnoxious TV shows, Gisele with her high-profile love life, or Naomi or Kate with courtroom scandals or drug drama. I think without those scandals there might be a different number one.

She is beautiful, sexy, intelligent, and very professional, and above all, she shows the beauty and energy of the Brazilian supermodels and women.
