Prada - Spring/Summer 2007

In a season of lightness and ease, Prada went rich and deep, offering up lush jewel tones in sumptuous duchesse satin and a new shape for the season – the sack dress. It was a bold statement of extreme chic, carried out less formally than fall’s aggressive, urban power woman.

Prada - Fall/Winter 2006

Miuccia Prada was the one who started fashion on the path to ladylike prettiness six years ago, so it’s fitting that she be the one to end it. This collection was about tough, smart, sexy women, who have traded their pencil skirts for Fall’s slim pants and oversized parkas. Pretty girls have given way to powerful women this season, and most would agree that it’s about time.

Prada’s main concern this season was ending the wave of ladylike looks that have been driving fashion for the past five years. This collection was deliberately modern, and full of quirky Prada combinations like simple cotton fabrics and shiny, hard accessories, or antique diamante and wooden bead embroideries. Miuccia Prada’s been exploring a kind of fashion equivalent of world music for a while now. This season she continues her world tour with a trip that seems to start in Jamaica. But as usual she manages to put together a really interesting hybrid of incongruous elements from all over the place and to build one story out of them.

For Fall 2004, Miuccia Prada, the designer who sets the bar season after season, delights her fans with mottled silk prints and adornments in the most unusual places.

Miuccia Prada took her audience on a whirlwind tour during her fifteen minute spring runway presentation. Packed with clothes perfect for travel, Miuccia refined her cosmopolitan collection with artisan techniques from around the world.

Miuccia Prada put herself smack dab into the centre of her collection this season. So much so, that the models even looked like her, from the hair and makeup and the attitude, right down to the clothes. Androgynous pieces with a post-war English spirit gave the sense that the Prada woman was making do with what she had, but her wardrobe was comforting without being shabby.

After last season’s sexy romp, Miuccia Prada took a turn in completely the opposite direction. Playing with simple silhouettes and quirky details, she married minimalism and embellishment in a collection filled with colour, ethnic details and a 60’s element.

Miuccia Prada had sex on the brain this season. The cerebral Prada child-woman, the template of fashion trends in the 1990's, was transformed into a curvaceous sexpot.
