Céline - Spring/Summer 2005

A whole new chapter begins this season at Céline under the direction of designer, Roberto Menichetti. During Michael Kors’ reign at Céline, he dressed the jet-set woman with an American sensibility, while Roberto Menichetti is tapping into Céline’s French bourgeois roots. For this collection his aesthetic is both European and experimental. Delving into softer shapes and cutout details, he is searching for his own version of the Céline woman.

Continuing with his tried-and-true formula of casual clothes for a glamourous lifestyle, Kors brought this collection to life with bright colour, bold prints, and lots of glitter.

The reputation of the house of Céline is based on understated elegance and Michael Kors manages to give the Céline woman exactly what she wants; simple, easy, beautifully luxurious clothes. This season Kors played up a woman's darker side and included sexy, outrageous pieces in the collection.

For the past few years his collections, whether for Céline or for his New York-based signature label, have been designed around the same basic theme. A recurring fantasy that incorporates two key elements: a wealthy, jet setting woman and a fabulous location as a backdrop. Past settings have included Palm Springs and St. Tropez; this season it’s the far east and Africa.
