Catherine Malandrino - Spring/Summer 2006

Manhattan-based, Parisian-born designer Catherine Malandrino opted for the intimacy of a presentation over the spectacle of a runway show to introduce the fashion world to Malandrino, her new, top-of-the-line collection. Key elements included handcrafted details, an earthy palette, laser cuts and lots of texture. Key influences included Amish craftsmanship and West African colours and patterns.

Catherine Malandrino, the French designer based in New York City, is known for her ability to deftly mix French and American influences within her clothing. This season she dedicates her collection to La Coupole, the Paris brasserie that was once frequented by Picasso, Modigliani, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir.

She's from France but Catherine Malandrino is crazy for Americana. This season she takes the fashion crowd way uptown to the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem to check out her upbeat collection. With Rosie Perez and Mary J Blige in the audience, Catherine put a sophisticated spin on the jazz era and brought a touch of Paris to 125th street.
