Betsey Johnson - Spring/Summer 2007
Betsey Johnson the original rock n’ roll designer has gone back to the 1950’s for her girlie and flirty inspiration. This season, with a little more tailoring, and softer colours, there is an added touch of sophistication.

Betsey Johnson is about to become a grandmother and the backstage scene this season is all about celebrating her granddaughter. Perhaps Betsey is growing up...especially in light of the collection she showed: rich, jewel tones, tailored suits, and sophisticated cocktail dresses that still smacked of that Betsey touch.

After a few seasons away from the official Fashion Week venue, Betsey Johnson has brought her show, and its accompanying zoo-like backstage, back to the Bryant Park tents. This season the theme-loving designer has created a British pub as backdrop to her runway show.

What started as an Asian themed collection loosely based on the 1992 film ‘The Lover’ ended up being an exercise in pretty for designer Betsey Johnson. Indulging in a theme of 50’s Prom, Johnson showed a parade of some of the most colorful, sexy, and young dresses.

Never one for a straightforward catwalk presentation, a Betsey Johnson show is usually a bunch of people discovering their inner exhibitionist, who may or may not be dressed to meet the minimum legal standards. For Fall 2004, Betsey has moved the party to Irving Plaza – a New York City club that has been synonymous with rock ‘n’ roll.

Over sixty and Betsey Johnson is still pumping out some of the sexiest, skimpiest, cheekiest clothes around. The designer who sent a bevy of playboy bunnies down the catwalk a few seasons ago pulled out all stops this season with her raunchy cabaret show, entitled, “Guys love BJ”.

For everyone involved – from the workers behind the scenes to the models to the audience - the Betsey Johnson show is a New York Fashion Week oasis. A boost of energy, humour and general joie de vive and a welcome break from the ‘serious business of fashion’. This season Betsey’s show was a Latin-themed fiesta, thanks to her recent purchase of a small hotel just south of Zihuatanejo, Mexico.

A Betsey Johnson show is always one wild party. This season twenty-two of her employees vamped it up as tarty sex kittens in Betsey's showroom for a completely home grown vibe.

Betsey Johnson summoned the fashion pack to Tavern On The Green this season for a ruffle-laden romp through street-wise Spanish style. Fearlessly feminine, flirtatious and fun, Betsey's "Mounaquita" muse took her cue from modern day pop divas, quickly making the leap from a little Spanish doll to a character more akin to Latin Barbie.
